In early October the Australian Physiotherapy Association held the Ignite 2023 Conference in Brisbane. Health Workforce Queensland attended with Rural Health West on behalf of the Rural Workforce Agencies and together we promoted the Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP). It was a great turnout and a wonderful chance to share the benefits that the HWSP can offer to physiotherapists across the country.
Much of the leadership team attended RMA2023, which was held from 18 - 21 October in Hobart, including CEO Chris Mitchell, who presented on the HWSP. For a summary of the presentation click the button below. We teamed up with HR + Tasmania on the Rural Workforce Agencies booth which provided a valuable opportunity to meet with many delegates.
Though we were unable to attend the 2023 NAATSIHWP Professional Development Symposium this year, we did have the opportunity to sponsor two Queensland-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers / Practitioners to attend and hope they gained valuable information and connections from this experience.
RACGP's WONCA 2023 World Conference was held in Sydney at the end of October, and with around 4,200 delegates it was a huge event. Health Workforce Queensland attended, again sharing a booth with fellow Rural Workforce Agencies (main picture) from across the country. Health Workforce Solutions Team Leader, Sandra Bukumirovic said it was a unique opportunity for recruitment as it was a combined RACGP and WONCA conference, and therefore many delegates were in attendance. It provided a valuable opportunity to share some of the vacancies available throughout Queensland's remote and rural locations and Australia-wide. Sandra also said, ''it was great to meet international medical graduates from countries all around the world, as well as Aussie trained ones''. Sandra was thrilled when Dr Abi Kaka from Gladstone popped by to say hi (see pictured below centre). Dr Kaka is very grateful for our assistance many years ago when he was an international medical graduate, with recruitment, the registration process, visa support, orientation and support to achieve Fellowship.
Health Workforce Queensland proudly sponsored the TROHPIQ Rural Generalist Breakfast, also held in October, in Brisbane. The event was the perfect chance to promote the rural generalist pathways, as well as general practice and rural health. We were also able to share how Health Workforce Queensland can be of assistance to the students who are considering their pathways while in training. The main speaker was brilliant at prompting the idea of working as a medical practitioner in rural Queensland. It was an enjoyable and informative morning.
