Over the past few months, we've had the pleasure of attending numerous conferences, meetings, and events, and hosted one of our own workshops.
In late July, our Leadership Team presented at the Festival of Nursing – Essential Health Summit in Adelaide. Our poster and presentation, titled Team-based Primary Care Barriers: Perceptions of Remote and Rural Nurses/Midwives in Queensland, highlighted key insights from the field.
Our Emergency Mental Health Workshop, held in Cairns on 10-11 August, brought together 23 doctors for in-depth training on topics like common mental health disorders, acute presentations, the mental state examination, legislation, capacity, courts and confidentiality, the assessment and management of suicide risk and various case studies. Led by Dr David Nguyen, Dr Katherine Moss, and Dr Kate Reid, the workshop was highly praised, with 96% of participants recommending it. One attendee remarked, “An excellent course which provides a toolkit for managing mental health emergencies — invaluable.”
Our Health Workforce and Service Planning Manager, Meredith Sullivan, was delighted to exchange ideas on measuring outcomes in remote and rural health with Charlotte Mills from ACRRM and Laura Lancaster from WQPHN. This engaging discussion took place at The Centre for Social Impact’s Outcomes Measurement Workshop, held in Marcoola in early August. Pictured below, Meredith is joined by Charlotte Mills (left) and Laura Lancaster (right).
We were pleased to sponsor part of the Outback Allied Health Conference, held in Mt Isa from 5–6 September, though we were unable to attend in person this year.
The 17th National Rural Health Conference took place in Perth in September under the theme Imagine, Inspire and Innovate. Meredith Sullivan presented on Place-based Planning: The Importance of the Local Hero, and our Service Delivery Manager, Andy van de Rijt, joined Carley Radel from NQPHN to present on the NQPHN Rural Workforce Enhancement Campaign. The conference offered excellent opportunities for learning and networking.
Additionally, the National Rural Workforce Agency Network held their quarterly meeting in Adelaide on 26 September.
We also attended the Darling Downs West Moreton PHN Allied Health Networking Event, the Gundy Medical Muster, and celebrated Goondir Health Services' 30th Anniversary. You can read all about these events in this article.
