The Maternal and Child Health Uplift Program is designed to offer financial assistance to enhance access to maternal and child health education and training for primary care providers in Northern Queensland.

Primary health professionals in Northern Queensland, whether applying individually or as an organisation, can access this funding to advance their skills in providing holistic primary health care for mums and bubs. This includes health and wellbeing services in the context of the child’s family unit. The financial support can cover costs for courses, conferences, workshops, additional qualifications, and travel and accommodation (where applicable). In some cases, flexible holistic costs related to upskilling may also be considered on an individual basis.

Since the program's launch in April this year, we’ve received 73 applications and the program has been extended until June 2025.

A physiotherapist, and Maternal and Child Health Uplift Program participant, shared, “It’s great to see more maternal and child health programs. I know so many of my allied health colleagues are too scared to even go near the women's/kid's health space because they feel they don't have the skills, so it is so good to see that the PHN recognises it’s an important space!

A midwife / registered nurse in an Aboriginal Medical Service is very thankful for the program funding which has enabled her to participate in training that she has incorporated into her practice. She shared, “I am also heading a team of First Nations doula's who I will support to incorporate this learning into their interactions with mums and bubs.”

A wide range of professions are eligible for this funding. For more information on eligibility, program guidelines, and to apply, click the button below.

This program, a joint initiative by Health Workforce Queensland and Northern Queensland PHN, aims to address the barriers the primary health workforce faces in accessing upskilling. It aligns with the Better Health North Queensland Alliance First 1,000 Days Framework.
